Before any medication of pigeons
occurs it is necessary to know:-
 |
What condition is being
treated?
|
 |
Is the medication being used
indicated for the condition being treated?
|
 |
If a number of medications
are being given at the same time, are they compatible?
|
The use of short courses of
antibiotics for non-specific purposes will only lead to a build up of resistant
bacteria which may render the drug useless when it is actually needed to combat
disease in the loft.
Antibiotics should only be used
under the direction of a veterinary surgeon and should be used exactly as
directed if the maximum benefit is to be obtained.
To show the importance of a
correct diagnosis the following causes (not exclusive) for diarrhoea and
respiratory problems are listed.

Incorrect treatment will be
ineffective and will waste valuable time during which the birds condition is
likely to deteriorate.
We can offer a full
advisory/diagnostic/medication programme for pigeon fanciers who are clients.
To ensure the vet is available,
pigeon clients are advised to make an appointment before attending the practice.
