Cloversan and Enviromist

Routine disinfection and Hygiene: 

An effective schedule of cleaning and disinfection will reduce the number of disease causing organisms to which the birds are exposed.

The following areas all need attention on farms where birds are being reared:

Foot Dips:  

place foot dips containing DEFRA approved disinfectant close to the entrance of pens and hatchery buildings for use by staff and visitors.

Hatching Eggs: 

wash all eggs as soon as possible after collection with an approved product following the manufacturer’s instructions.

disinfect eggs before setting with an approved product.  

 

Routine Farm Disinfection:

clean and disinfect all equipment immediately before use at the beginning of the season. Use ‘Cloversan’ or ‘Enviromist’ to reduce contamination in the environment.

during the season, regularly clean and disinfect surfaces, feeders and drinkers. Treat pen floors with ‘Cloversan’ or ‘Enviromist’.

 

Incubators, Setters and Hatchers:

Clean thoroughly at the start and end of the season and between batches of eggs in the hatcher.

Obtain advice from your disinfectant company representative or from your Veterinary Surgeon for a detailed programme suited to individual circumstances.  

 

Outdoors and Release Pens:

regularly clean feeders and drinkers. Treat worn areas with ‘Cloversan’ or ‘Enviromist’.  

Water:

ensure that the birds have a clean supply at all times. Most systems require additional treatment of the water if bacterial levels are to be kept low.  

 

End of Season Procedure:

remove all equipment and fittings.

sweep out litter and dust.

wash out houses with a pressure washer.

disinfect houses with an approved disinfectant.

physically clean equipment and fittings.

disinfect equipment (where possible) with an approved disinfectant.

treat floors and ground to destroy coccidia and worm eggs.

disinfect pen floors and worn grass areas with a suitable product.
